Re-opening in 2022 following a £13 million revamp, the V&A museum of childhood is being transformed from a nostalgic look at childhood gone by, to a forward-thinking museum designed to inspire our future adults.
An easy way to entertain the children during your apart hotel stay in Stratford, they’ll never tire of the vast array of collections and rooms. As entry is free you can pop in for an hour at a time or spend all day, the choice is yours.
From toddler areas designed for crawling and exploring, where everything is the correct height, to dress-up areas where fashion displays sit alongside the clothes to try on, ready to inspire them, this is the perfect place for children to play, learn and grow.
The three new galleries, Imagine, Play and Design will be home to more than 2,000 of the museum’s exhibits, curated to nurture young minds. There’s a huge focus on interactive displays where children can be hands-on and experience processes for themselves. Play will house games both new and old, Imagine takes a look at characters and their stories, from Paddington to Pikachu, while in the design areas, works by leading designers will showcase how items are made and an open studio is set to host a designer in residence, so children have the opportunity to see what is at the cutting edge of design.
Nostalgia has not been forgotten in the all-new museum, the collection of doll’s houses will still exist, it will just be displayed differently. As will the almost 33,000 other objects belonging to the museum’s collection spanning over 400 years.
Whether you’re planning to take your children or simply unleash your inner child, the V&A museum of childhood has something to inspire and delight.
