If you have just a weekend to enjoy Paris why not try a themed break or pick one area of the city like Montmatre. Montmatre has been associated with artists for 200 years and today street artists still ply their trade in the village.
The Sacre Coeur contains many treasures and dominates the hill in front of the Square Willette which is laid out in a series of descending terraces with lawns, shrubs, trees and flowerbeds. The Espace Montmatre Salvador Dali has some 330 works by the surrealist painter on display and for a hidden gem go and visit the Montmatre vineyard which is the last vineyard in Paris. Feeling peckish, how about a bite to eat in “A la Mere Catherine” a favourite restaurant of Russian Cossacks. They would shout “Bistro” meaning “quick” and that was how the bistro was named. And for night life – “Au Lapin Agile” – the nimble rabbit is one of the best known nightclubs.
Longer Holidays in Paris
If you have more time then you can choose a rental apartment either in the city centre or outside for peace and quiet. All the sights and sounds of Paris can be tasted at your leisure. Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, the smart intellectual zone of St-Germain-des-Pres, the left and right banks, bateaux on the river itself, a stroll down the Champs-Elysees and a visit to the Elysee Palace, the Opera Quarter, the magnificent Pompidou Centre and don’t forget to go and see the Mona Lisa’s smile in The Louvre. One holiday won’t be enough, you will return time and time again.
